The Karibu Foundation, together with the Church of Norways Council on Ecumenical and International Relations (Mellomkirkelig råd), will be hosting an open seminar entitled "The Missing Peaces: Challenges of the Global North's Peace Agenda" from 09:30-12:00 on Thursday, 30. October 2014. The seminar will explore the missing pieces, limitations, and possible harmful sides of the Global North's "peace agenda" from the perspective of a number of voices from the Global South.

Iraqi Civil Society Solidarity Intiative (ICSSI) Conference - Oslo

The Iraqi Civil Society Solidarity Initiative (ICSSI) and Iraqi Social Forum (ISF) are issuing an urgent call for activitis from around the world to come and discuss a just resolution of the current crisis in Iraq at the upcoming conference of the ICSSI, 27-29 October 2014, to be held in Oslo, Norway.

The ISF will also be holding a special session at the 2014 Globalization Conference (which is organized by the Norwegian Social Forum) on October 31st, entitled “Hope for Peace and Development in Iraq:  Meet the Iraqi Social Forum”.  Here they will share perspectives on how, more than 11 years after the U.S. invasion, Iraqis are still struggling to overcome the effects of war and to subdue the sectarian conflicts that emerged during the occupation and have been exacerbated by the current Iraqi government (see

Activities during the ICSSI conference will consist of a number of open and wide-ranging discussions about the current situation in Iraq. Participants will discuss options for promoting dialogue among all members of Iraqi society and pressuring the Iraqi government to support reconciliation and reject war as a solution to the current crisis. International delegates will focus on how to support Iraqi civil society’s efforts to rebuild a stable political system in which all citizens can participate without discrimination or bias. Participants will  also discuss the campaigns currently led by Iraqi CSOs and supported by ICSSI.

Ecumenical Bishops Forums (EBF) National Assembly

The Ecumenical Bishops Forum (EBF) will hold its 23rd National Assembly on October 13-17 this year in Cebu, the Philippines.  

More than 40 Bishops from the Roman Catholic Church, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Episcopal Church in the Philippines, United Church of Christ in the Philippines, United Methodist Church, Iglesia Evangelica Metodista en las Islas Filipinas and Ang Iglesya Metodista sa Pilipinas are expected to attend.

World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel

The Palestine Israel Ecumenical Forum (PIEF) of the World Council of Churches invites member churches, faith-based communities, and civil society organizations around the world to join together in 2014 for a week of advocacy and action in support of an end to the illegal occupation of Palestine and a just peace for all in Palestine and Israel. Congregations and individuals around the globe who share the hope of justice shall unite during the week to take peaceful actions, together, to create a common international public witness.

The theme of the week in 2014, to be observed during 21-27 September, is: "Let my people go!"
