From 2021-2024, Karibu is undergoing a grantmaking pilot project in “Participatory Grantmaking,” where change actors in Sub-Saharan Africa will define a majority of the criteria, reporting requirements, and not least the decisions of what initiatives receive grants within the bounds of this pilot project. You can read more information here: https://www.karibu.no/karibu-new-realities-grant/ or in our 2022 annual report.
We are currently bringing in two new members of the project’s “CORE GROUP” for the second cycle of the pilot (2023). We are therefore collecting nominations for members of this “core group”.
We look forward to receiving nominations from your organizations and networks by Wednesday, 1st Feb 2023.
Candidate Qualities
The KNRG Reference Group is especially looking for candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa who:
• Have experience working with social movements
• Have demonstrated their ability to use analytic courage, strategic clarity, and moral courage in their struggle for a more just world
• Have a clear ability to collaborate across thematic areas and across generations
• Have demonstrated eagerness and experience towards moving towards a new generation of activists
• Have the ability to understand and communicate national or local challenges + their links with systemic or international challenges
• Are nominated by and anchored to already existing organizations, networks, or movements in Sub-Saharan Africa – and can be practically “hosted” by one of these networks
• Can communicate (written, orally) in English as a working language (for practical reasons). It is a bonus with additional language abilities
• Have access to internet (for practical reasons)
• The final composition of the grantmaking “Core Group” will place specific emphasis on gender balance and thematic needs of the group.
Time commitment: Core group members commit to actively building and participating in the pilot for the duration of their at least 1 year term (1 full day meeting each month + 2 hours of independent/team work weekly for 1 year + potentially other physical meetings during the period). They will be remunerated for their contributions and time.
A first physical meeting for the entire “Core Group” is planned in late March 2023.
The Reference Group (consisting of mainly African activists) will make a final decision of the composition of the group in early February 2023.
